The city of Oulu is located in the northern part of the Gulf of Bothnia. It is the fifth city in terms of population in Finland. There are two universities and a large number of museums in this city. One of the museums is TIETOMAA – a scientific and entertainment center. In this center there is a large number of expositions, some of which are devoted to the Gulf of Bothnia and water in general. This interesting scientific and entertainment center is located in the old water tower that was used also as a fire station. This tower supplied the city center residents with water and also served as a location of firefighting brigades. Times have changed, and now there is a museum here.
The other part of the expositions related to the environment is at the University of Oulu. The museum is small but includes a lot of exhibits associated with marine and river inhabitants. Exhibits are collected from different parts of the world. There are also exhibits that represent the underwater fauna of northern Finland.
